The public debate about climate change has seen some major shifts in community thinking in regard to renewal energy sources and sustainability of resources. We have seen a blossoming of the solar industry in the areas of household electricity generation and hot water production. The changes in public attitude have placed significant pressure on the chemical industry to move to using renewable energy sources and sustainable starting materials. This project aims to develop economically viable green manufacturing processes using sustainable starting materials and solar radiation. It will also elucidate the economic viability of converting essential oils of New Caledonian local native plants into insect repellents, using the sun as a source of light and heat.
